Saturday, March 20, 43 cache run
March 28, 2010
So… I know it’s been a week since this trip, but for whatever reason I am just now getting around to writing about it.
9:45 a.m.
We started the morning off with Spike and Trackerjack meeting at my place to pick me up. Spike came in and borrowed a pair of gloves I had since he would be riding his bullet bike. We headed a few blocks over to Explorer3′s house to pick her up and get going to Idaho Falls. It was a decently cold morning and we poked fun at Spike for a minute while he was getting ready to follow behind. He was riding his bike because he was going to need to take off sooner than the rest of us were planning on. We knew he’d freeze so Trackerjack borrowed him a second pair of gloves that would go over his sleeves. The trip went by pretty quick, only an hour Exp3 always knows how to keep a trip lively. We got into IF and headed to Radioguy949′s place with some coordinates he had mailed us. The coords took us to an old red apartment building that the paint was peeling off of. Exp3 Called RG949 to ask him if he lived in the “Super Ugly Apartments” and apparently the coords he got off the net were a few blocks off. We finally got down the the right apartment, had a quick meet and greet, parked Spikes bike and all piled into the Yukon. Our group now consisted of Psychoraven102(me), Trackerjack102, Explorer3, Spike-Spiegel, Radioguy949, and little Radio Dude.
10:32 a.m.
We are headed to our first cache, an easy “Park-n-Grab” (light post) cache to get us started… We’re on a role! The day was starting off well and its only going to get better. We are all getting warmed up and the familiar laughs, jokes, and gags begin. The next cache we visited only 4 minutes later was in someone front yard and was a container inside of a cooler, first of its kind that I’ve found.
11:20 a.m.
We made our way from cache to cache and then about 7 caches in we came to a cache named “Electromagnetic Field” which is claimed to be a 5 Star hide, the best of the best. Most of us are seasoned cachers so we decided to give it a jab. Not even a minute in a local came our her back door to see what her dog was barking about and we got the usual “Can I help you guys?” Exp3 looked at her said “Just doing a scavenger hunt, don’t mind us!” and back inside she went. A few more minutes passed and Spike (the noobie of the group) yells “is this is? I think I got it!” Yup, its true, the only one of us that hasn’t found hundreds of caches was the first of us to lacate a 5 start hide… Beginners luck I say
What a great hide though!
11:51 a.m.
We are 10 caches in and now looking aimlessly around a trash covered area by WalMart. We spend far too much time looking for a cache that has been missing for some time, but I managed to snap a photo of RG949 and LRD hunting the bushes.

Where is it? GC1K970

The next cache made up the a bit of time… We didn’t even get out of the car, lol!

12:06 p.m.
The next cache took us to a currently dried river bed. The first place I looked was actually a bum camp, I quickly snapped a picture and got out of there. We crossed to the other side and found the cache, 12 caches in at this point.

Here is a video I threw together with my phone, this was the second to last cache before lunch and over by target. http://img705.yfrog.com/i/5t0.mp4/
12:25
We are finishing up the “Bed Bugs” cache and trying to decided where to eat. I say, without thinking, “I like 5 guys!” As you can image, RG949 and Spike quickly scoot over and decide they don’t so much like sitting next to me anymore… I’ll watch what I say next time. haha. We decide to eat at Cafe Rio so we went in and grabbed a table big enough for the 6 of us plus RadioGuy949′s Wife and little girl who would be joining us shortly. We get our food and enjoy the amazing Baracoa Pork burritos and salads and chips. We tell RG949′s wife of our morning so far and get ready to start the second half of our day. This is the point where Spike had to get going to he left with Mrs. RG949 back to the house and headed home on his Bullet Bike, back into the cold.
1:27
We head across the road to our next cache “Winter access Summer Fun GC1K8K4.” This cache does not take me long since I have one hidden very similar. We do about 2 more caches before it’s time for all of us to put in a fresh set of batteries.
1:43
We are now at “Nana’s Cache GC1Q9TY” I thought this cache was worth mentioning because the cache is hidden next to a really cool old car I grabbed a picture of.

3:41 p.m.
It’s been an exciting day so far and now we are at “OX0735 GCG31D” There was about a .25 mile hike to this cache, but the view is worth it. Right near the cache we noticed a benchmark which are also trackable at a different website so I snapped a photo. Mr. Exp3 really like benchmarks so I made sure to text him the pic. Just past the cache was this structure sticking out of the ground with some solar panels attached. RG949 swears there is some kind of conspiracy associated with this, but I’ll let you ask him about that. lol

4:22 p.m.
This is probably one of the funniest parts of our day. We’re now on our 24th cache of the day, “Rocking Rock http://coord.info/GC1THP7 ” It’s located at a creepy little park in the middle of nowhere and RG949 started singing a song about it. “Creepy little post apocalyptic Park, gotta eat dog meat..” something something, anyway it was really funny, you be the judge. We could have sworn it was right out of Fallout 3

4:50 p.m.
We are now up on a hill next to a bunch of radio towers. We do about 3 or 4 caches up here and the location is actually an old water park and mini golf course. RG949 and Exp3 were able to tell us a little about it. It is all torn down and destroyed now and there is a lot of paint balls in the area, and also a lot of graffiti. The geocache located here was one of the few ammo cans we found.

7:17 p.m.
The rest of our trip went by pretty quick we did a few more caches in town and finally started to get tired as the sun went down. We finished our journey at Hot Dog! http://coord.info/GC1QB9C . It was a fun day and a fun trip. I hope to have more in the near future to write about and share with everyone. We ended the day with 37 Find and 6 DNF’s

I love finding neat old cars while caching. One of my favourite caches is hidden in the rusty old carcass of a very, very old truck (c 1920). After finding the cache, I got my dad to help me research the vehicle and we found out that it was an old White Motor Company truck.
